We the undersigned petition The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to hold an advisory referendum before the budget of 2022/23 with all RBWM residents in order to give residents a voice and a choice on any proposed changes to Council Tax. More details
More details from petition creator
The Cabinet's proposal to lobby central government to increase the council tax above the 2% cap was agreed by council on 14th October 2020.
What the Cabinets proposal means to you: If the Government increases the current 2% cap then residents will have no choice in the decision and see their council tax rise. If the Government does not increase the 2% cap then RBWM residents will see further cuts in services of circa £9m up to the financial year 2025 as outlined by the Cabinet in the Medium Term Financial Strategy.
We believe residents should be guaranteed a voice and a choice in any decision to change council tax through a legally binding mechanism where appropriate.
If you agree, please sign this petition to ask the Council to give the you the choice between reducing services or increasing council tax and to support an advisory referendum.
Note: A legally binding referendum will be triggered if the Council proposes to increase the base Council Tax by an amount deemed "excessive" in line with principles published by the Secretary of State and approved by the House of Commons on a Yearly basis.
