Save the Datchet Wellingtonia (Sequoiadendron Giganteum Wellingtonia) which at around 170 years old is arguably one of Datchet's oldest trees and most certainly one of the tallest. The tree finds itself the victim of a ruthless and aggressive commercial stance by Direct Line Insurance with RBWM astonishingly succumbing legal threats and granting permission for a protected tree to be removed. The tree may be implicated in subsidence issues that affect a neighbouring building, however a tree expert has provided different remedies that could stabilise the building and preserve the tree. Astonishingly these recommendations have been ignored and it would appear a cost-driven decision. Ask RBWM to revoke their decision to allow the tree to be felled and pursue other options. Email trees@rbwm.gov.uk and copy in the head of planning, adrien.waite@rbwm.gov.uk and managing director of RBWM duncan.sharkey@rbwm.gov.uk Direct Line to honour its environmental and climate commitment. Email CEO of Direct Line Group, Penny James, penny.james@directlinegroup.co.uk
