We the undersigned petition The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead to Save the Datchet tree - 200 year old Sequoia in Southlea Road Datchet. More details

Hi Folks. We have about 2 weeks (26th May 2021) to try and save the Datchet Wellingtonia (Sequoiadendron Giganteum Wellingtonia) which at around 170 years old is arguably one of Datchet's oldest trees and most certainly one of the tallest.
The tree finds itself the victim of a ruthless and aggressive commercial stance by Direct Line Insurance with RBWM astonishingly succumbing to their legal threats and granting permission for a protected tree to be removed.
The tree may be implicated in subsidence issues that affect a neighbouring building, however a tree expert has provided different remedies that could stabilise the building and preserve the tree.
Astonishingly these recommendations have been ignored and it would appear a cost-driven decision has been made that impacts Datchet’s Heritage and the Conservation Area in which the tree stands.
